FIRE (Financial Independence, Retire Early) is a planning approach where you accumulate an investable corpus large enough that sustainable withdrawals can cover living expenses, making paid work optional.
Save and invest until your portfolio can pay your bills — then you can retire early or work only because you want to.
Commonly sized with a safe withdrawal rate (often 4%, implying ~25× annual expenses). Indian planners frequently stress-test 3–3.5% for longevity and medical inflation. Variants include Lean, Fat, and Coast FIRE.
If your annual expenses are ₹6 lakh, a 4% rule FIRE number is about ₹1.5 crore (25 × ₹6 lakh), before taxes and buffers.
FIRE Number ≈ Annual Expenses × (100 ÷ Safe Withdrawal Rate %)Save and invest until your portfolio can pay your bills — then you can retire early or work only because you want to.
FIRE helps you evaluate products, compare options, and make informed decisions aligned with goals, tax rules, and risk tolerance in the Indian financial system.
