Section 80D allows deduction for health insurance premiums for self/family and parents under the Old Tax Regime.
Self eligible = min(Premium + Preventive up to Rs 5,000, limit). Parents eligible = min(Parents premium, parents limit). Total = sum of both.
Senior citizens get Rs 50,000 limit instead of Rs 25,000 for self and/or parents separately.
Up to Rs 5,000 preventive check-up is within the self/family limit, not additional.
Example 1: Self Rs 25K + Preventive Rs 5K + Parents Rs 25K → Total Rs 50K. Example 2: Self senior, premium Rs 40K → Eligible Rs 40K. Example 3: Both senior, Rs 50K each → Total Rs 1L.
Section 80D Limits
Max combined deduction up to ₹1,00,000 when both are senior citizens.
