Financial year in India runs from 1 April to 31 March, used for tax filing, budgeting, and corporate accounting.
India's financial year starts April 1 and ends March 31 — your salary tax and investments follow this calendar.
FY2025-26 means 1 Apr 2025 to 31 Mar 2026. Income earned in FY is assessed in following assessment year. Budget presented February affects upcoming FY. TDS, advance tax, and 80C deadlines align to FY boundaries.
ELSS invested before 31 March 2026 counts for FY2025-26 Section 80C. Salary April 2025–March 2026 taxed in AY2026-27 return due July 2026.
Calendar year is Jan–Dec. India's tax and government accounting use Apr–Mar financial year exclusively.
1 April 2025. Budget July 2025 may revise rates mid-year for remainder of FY2025-26 per Finance Act provisions.
Companies Act allows alternate year-end with approval, but tax still computed on Apr–Mar basis for most entities.
