A cheque bounce (dishonour) occurs when a bank refuses to honour a cheque, usually due to insufficient funds or a signature mismatch.
When your bank refuses to process a cheque, usually because of low balance.
Dishonour for insufficient funds is a criminal offence under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, and banks levy separate penalty charges for the depositor and issuer.
